Connecting Japan

Interview

You Yoshioka : VisionStyleYou

My name is You Yoshioka, and I am the founder of VisionStyleYOU. When choosing the name for my business, I wanted it to reflect our mission to be a significant presence in individuals’ “life visions” and “styles of being.” The term “VisionStyle” was chosen for its dual significance: it encompasses both the foresight of future plans and the visual aspects (appearance) of one’s life vision.

With this vision in mind, our concept is to “expand and connect people, things, hearts, and culture.” We provide branding support to realize individual dreams by maximizing possibilities and values

I am originally from Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture. Until March 2009, I worked as an office worker at a pharmaceutical company in my hometown. From a young age, I had a vague but persistent desire to work in roles related to “total coordination” and “production,” driven by the idea of connecting people and their aspirations. I was determined not to have any regrets about how I lived my life.

Over time, my desire to make this vision a reality grew stronger. In April 2009, I decided to leave both my residence and job behind and moved to Tokyo to start my entrepreneurial journey. Looking back, it seems quite reckless, but the exhilaration I felt when I resolved to shape my mission remains unforgettable.

Initially, I began with a part-time business focusing on total coordination of both inner aspects (coaching) and outer appearance (styling) under the trademark “Vision Stylist®.” Today, I work under the concept of “expanding and connecting people, things, hearts, and culture,” providing rebranding support for individuals, cultures, and regions.

The foundation of my business was greatly influenced by my grandfather. He ran a small ironworks business and was a quiet, old-fashioned craftsman born in the Meiji era. Despite his reserved nature, many people sought his advice, and his guidance often led to transformative changes in their lives. In terms of attire, he maintained a distinctive style: work clothes during the day, traditional kimono at home, and well-tailored suits with a hat when going out. Observing his stance and way of being left me with a deep sense of admiration and respect from a young age.

This influence is reflected in my current work, where his advice translates into coaching, his attention to attire reflects in fashion consulting, and his traditional craftsmanship connects to Japanese culture. These elements have all contributed to the essence of my business.

Service Overview

We offer comprehensive support to maximize new possibilities and value through the following three core services:

  1. Re-Total Branding for Individuals Aged 45 and Up
  2. Re-Japanese Cultural Branding for International Audiences
  3. Re-Packaging Branding Adapted to Contemporary Trends

Branding involves shaping how others perceive you. In today’s rapidly changing world, it is essential to present oneself in ways that align with current times and circumstances. Our approach to Rebranding enhances value and differentiates from competitors based on a foundation of core ideas and messages, thereby increasing reliability and influence.

  1. Re-Total Branding focuses on:
    • Inner Aspects: Coaching to clarify thoughts, behavioral traits, and subconscious beliefs
    • Outer Aspects: Enhancing visual presentation through fashion and other elements.
As a total coordinator, I help visualize current personal aspirations in a manner suitable for one’s age, creating a distinctive and refined branding that is ideal for business leaders.
  2. Re-Japanese Cultural Branding involves:
    • Consulting for craftsmen and businesses related to Japanese culture.Planning and managing international events that promote Japanese culture.
My interest in Japanese design patterns and the desire to support Japanese cultural figures led me to this field. In April 2024, we organized the “1st Japanese Culture Exchange Exhibition in Da Nang 2024” in Vietnam to introduce Japanese culture overseas, thereby opening doors to international influence and new business opportunities. Future plans include expanding Japanese cultural outreach and organizing further international events.
  3. Re-Packaging Branding was inspired by my donation of artwork to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which led to exhibitions at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the National Art Center, Tokyo, and Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. This experience has allowed me to work as a ukiyo-e artist and engage in design-related projects. As part of this service, I work on revitalizing local businesses through new packaging designs to stimulate growth.

While it may seem like a wide array of activities, the goal is to connect people, opportunities, and joy through diverse branding services.

I have two major objectives for the future:

  1. Rebranding Local Businesses: I aim to contribute to increasing sales through involvement in packaging design and support for expanding into international markets.
  2. Expanding Overseas Networks: I plan to develop pathways to overseas markets and establish a Japanese select shop (with Italy as a target). Many clients and Japanese cultural figures wish to expand abroad but face challenges related to means, opportunities, and funding.

As I continue to build connections with international opportunities, I seek to bridge these gaps, facilitating the spread of aspirations and works. This involves learning and addressing numerous challenges related to business scale and global developments. Despite these challenges, I am committed to advancing our mission of “expanding and connecting people, things, hearts, and culture” with dedication and clear actions. I look forward to helping clients experience a renewed self, enriched lives, and a vibrant future.
